Final Protocol
The Snoqualmie Tribe participated in final protocol on August 4, 2023 near 12:00 AM in the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe’s new community center. The photos from the Final Protocol include the preparation, singing, dancing, people speaking, gifting the host Tribe, and the happy feelings that follow the completion of final protocol.
Access to these photos for Snoqualmie Tribal Members is intended to include everyone in the cultural education that Canoe Journey provides regardless of whether or not everyone was able to attend.
We are grateful for the hosting Tribe and their generous services and the volunteers who made it all happen on the ground. The Snoqualmie Tribe was grateful to participate in final protocol with handmade regalia and the memories of the canoe. Our hands go up to all of the other Tribes who participated in Canoe Journey 2023. It is the moments when we come together that open the path for future generations to continue our cultural lifeways.
The Journey
The Snoqualmie Tribe traveled from Fall City, WA to Auburn, WA to complete the 2023 Canoe Journey. Our river canoes traveled out to the sound from Snoqualmie Falls and our ocean canoe, laʔlagʷas, carried us from each Tribe who hosted along the way. We are grateful for the generosity of these Tribes who hosted along the journey.

Thank You
The Culture Department would like to thank all the participants of Canoe Journey 2023. Snoqualmie Tribe’s presence at Canoe Journey would not be possible without the dedication, teamwork, and generosity of the Tribal Members and Tribal staff who choose to create, learn, and participate in Canoe Journey. We are grateful for what each of you brings to the table and your contributions to the lifeway that Canoe Journey provides.
